A few days ago, one of my good friends made a FaceBook post. She asked if she should be on Resveratrol. I had no idea what she was talking about but meant to google. I happened to pick up the February 2010 issue of Fitness Magazine today. One of the cover lines says “More Energy, Better Body- The Hot New Pill Women Are Popping”. Turns out, the story is all about resveratrol, a supplement. According to the article, it’s an antioxidant that “may help boost endurance, stave off weight gain and improve energy”. Sounds too good to be true?
After reading the article, I am very intrigued. One of the women featured in the article said that she is in better shape ever since she started taking it. Since she has more energy and dedication, she has remained committed to her workouts. The article also says that it’s one of the top five best-selling supplements available at Vitamin Shoppe. A quick search on google, I found it could be purchased from Walgreens, Walmart, Target and Amazon.com, among many other sites.
Of course, is there really an easy way out? There has not been enough studies about this supplement (and many others out there that make similar claims) to garner the truth. Plus, what about the long term effects?
What do you think? Will anyone admit to trying this supplement? I would love to hear about your experience.
